World Class Sure – But Still Fun For Everyone

With $23 million worth of upgrades over the past year, and an ongoing commitment to facility upgrades, the Canmore Nordic Center has reasserted itself as a destination for the best of the best in the world of Cross Country skiing. A one time host of the Winter Olympics, the center now serves as the National Team training facility, and by all accounts the World Cup event in December was nothing short of a complete success.

In fact, it is entirely possible that the Nordic Center’s contribution to training and competition in the Nordic events could result in Canadian skiers capturing podium finishes at the Winter Olympics next month in Turin, Italy.

The thing is, you don’t have to be a high level athlete to take advantage of the amenities. Located less than 10 minutes from downtown Canmore, and 25 minutes from Banff, the Nordic Center offers instruction and equipment rentals that also attracts beginners to the sport. With over 30 kilometers of trails of varying difficulty cutting through the forest in the shadow of Mount Rundle’s South end, 5 kilometers of them lit for night skiing until 9 PM, the Center is the perfect place to cough up a lung, err,
I mean, to work off some of that holiday cheer.
Throw in a café where you can grab a quick lunch, add a comfy fire in the spacious lounge, and you have the makings of a great day.
